Flexor tendon ruptures in the forearm and hand

Abstract

|
|
The authors surveyed flexor tendon laceration in the forearm and the hand.
Sixty-six patients had treatment: by direct repair in fifty-four patients, free tendon-grafting in eleven, and tendon transfer in one.
Indications permitting primary repair included clean lacerations caused by sharp instruments with minimum tissue damage and no contamination or open fractures.
Careful technique by a skilled surgeon and ´postoperative rehabilitation were important. Good results were obtained in seventy-one per centof the tendon repairs.
